WhatsApp has been among the biggest names when it comes to the world of communication technology. The app has changed the way we communicate. Facebook owned WhatsApp is known for their innovations. One of the latest additions to WhatsApp is the UPI support which has been rumored for months. Today, we got our first look as a screenshot of WhatsApp UPI payments feature leaked.

UPI payments, for those of you who might not be aware, are basically instant payments linked to a virtual ID which is linked to a bank account. UPI stands for Unified Payments Interface and facilitates easy transfer of money between two users. This WhatsApp UPI payments feature is a hidden feature present in WhatsApp Beta version 2.17.285.

Reportedly, the final version of this feature is all set to get a stable, public release by the end of this year. WhatsApp is working with the National Payments Corporation of India in order to figure out a larger adaptation of this feature. The WhatsApp UPI payments screen seen above was leaked by WABetaInfo, a website which has been known to provide a number of important leaks and tips when it comes to WhatsApp.

With the WhatsApp UPI payments feature going live, it will give a big boost to this Indian government backed payments platform. Following the demonetization wave in November, a large number of Indian users have adapted digital payments. However a majority of them are wallet users and UPI is yet to get mainstream. With WhatsApp UPI payments support, it might become easier for users to adapt to it owing to the familiarity of the app.

This is indeed a good feature from WhatsApp. The app which has over a billion users worldwide has a large chunk of their users from India, with over 200 Million users from the country. With WhatsApp UPI payments, it is a win-win for the government of India as well as WhatsApp! Stay tuned with us for more information on the same.
