Sony has been one of the oldest brands in the smartphone market. Even after being one of the oldest one, it has failed to beat the newly emerging brands. There were rumors saying, Sony won’t make any smartphones, However, those were proved false with the launch of the Xperia Z4.

Android Nougat

Google recently released the Android Nougat Update for the Nexus devices other than the Nexus 5 and other older devices. This has already been a signal for custom ROM developers to begin the development work to make the OS available to other people before it is officially launched. Recently, Sony also announced the list of Xperia devices which will be getting the Android 7.0 Nougat Update on the official Sony Blog.

  • Xperia Z3+
  • Xperia Z4 Tablet
  • Xperia Z5
  • Xperia Z5 Compact
  • Xperia Z5 Premium
  • Xperia X
  • Xperia XA
  • Xperia XA Ultra
  • Xperia X Performance.

These are the devices which will be getting the official Android 7.0 Update from Sony. However, this news will probably disappoint the Sony fans who owns devices older than Xperia Z4 i.e. Xperia Z3 and older Xperia phones. If you own an older Sony device which isn’t getting Android 7.0 Nougat update officially, then you shall try installing Cyanogenmod 14 which will soon be available.

Sony has not mentioned any information about the date and the features that will come to the above-listed devices. We’ve noticed that Sony releases the Android Updates after 2-3 weeks of announcing it, so we can assume that the Android 7.0 Nougat would be available to the above-mentioned Xperia devices by the end of September 2016.

With Android 7.0 Nougat Update on a Sony Xperia device, you shall get to see new Sony Features and improvements in the User Experience. But, there are chances that the first few releases which are made available to the public would surely have a lot of bugs. Do comment and let others know what are the features and improvements, so that they shall decide whether it is worth upgrading to Android Nougat or not.
