Global Smartphone market leader Samsung has to face really tough competition after entry of new companies in the market with budget Smartphones. Companies like Motorola, Xiaomi and homegrown companies like Micromax, Lava launched the smartphones loaded with features at very attractive prices. This was a really big change for the Indian Smartphone market where customers are very price conscious.
Samsung was losing its grip over the market to these budget manufacturers. Samsung’s entry-level smartphones were also suffering because of the low-performance image and hanging issues. Samsung lowered the prices of its smartphones to stay in the market; it initially increased the sales but didn’t help the company in the way it was expecting. Samsung had to do something to hold its legacy in the rapid growing market.
In 2013, Samsung came up with its budget smartphone series ‘J-series’. J-series phones gave a sigh of relief to the company management as smartphones of this series did not disappoint the company in sales. J-series was promoted with features like data-saving mode, Real 4G experience, and AMOLED Display.
Samsung Galaxy J7 and Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime are latest and most popular phones of this series which are followed by other models like Samsung Galaxy J5 and Samsung Galaxy J2.
Samsung Galaxy J7 vs Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime
Every company has its own USP (Unique Selling Proposition). Some companies create the hype of product then launch in limited quantity result of which is long waiting. Samsung is not one of those companies. You can see significant launches from the company in any given year. One such example is J7 series. Samsung Galaxy J7 was launched first in 2015 and upgraded version of it Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) surfaced in the market in March 2016. Four months later the market witnessed a new launch Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime with some new features.
Not only the name resembles but also various features of these two phones. But these phones also have some major differences which you must be aware of before making the buying decision.
What is the first thing which attracts you to a smartphone when you look at it the first time? Design? Yeah, better design of a smartphone makes the smartphone look beautiful. Afterall smartphones have become part of our style statement. So you should be choosy for the feature which is openly visible, the design. In design both of the phones look premium but they have some major differences.
From front both the phones look more or less similar; both the phones have the designs which remind their parent Samsung phones. Samsung has not made many changes in designs of these two phones. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has the curvy screen which makes it look magnificent while in Galaxy J7 (2016) you will have to compromise with flat screen. But from back both phones can be differentiated with ease. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) has the sharp edges while Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has curved edges making it more beautiful.
Samsung has ditched the plastic long ago in its premium phones but it looked back again in Samsung Galaxy J7 (2015). But soon Samsung realized its mistake and corrected it in the upgraded versions by using metal again. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) comes with the plastic back cover which looks like metal from far and while Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime has got the metal back panel which makes it look better and strong. But battery and back panel can be removed in Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) only. You will miss this in the prime version.
Dimensions of both the phones are almost similar with minute variations. The Samsung Galaxy J7 has 151.70 x 76.00 x 7.80 mm while J7 Prime has 151.50 x 74.90 x 8.10 mm. J7 Prime is a bit narrower but makes your grip better.
So for design Prime definitely has an edge over Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016)
Samsung Galaxy J7 (2016) comes with 5.5 inches big HD display. The display is not full HD but Super AMOLED Display gives the good picture quality with good colors and 267 ppi (Pixels per Inch).

It is appropriate for small games like Mini Militia, Clash of Clans. But both the phones disappointed bit when we tried the heavy games like Asphalt 8 Airborne.
A major parameter while picking any smartphone these days. Both the phones have 13MP (f/1.9) rear camera with autofocus and LED Flash. Both the smartphones can record Full HD 1080p@30fps video.

Pictures taken with these phones will not disappoint you. Camera quality is pretty good in this price range.
