Nubia‘s latest launch, the Nubia Z11 Mini S is one of the top names when it comes to recent releases. The phone offers the users with many unique features but is primarily known for the camera. The camera has been the highlight of the device, and Nubia had been teasing it for a while now. Days before the launch Nubia had sent out teasers indicating a new smartphone with an amazing camera is on its way.

Nubia’s Z11 Mini S comes out into the markets as a decent offering. However, will it be able to live the fight in the long run? This review will help you determine whether the Nubia Z11 Mini S is worth spending your money or not. Before beginning with the review, we would like to let you know that the device was already out in the global market, it is just the Indian market in which the device is new.

The Review

The Nubia Z11 Mini S smartphone comes out into the markets as an unexpected surprise. The phone punches way above its weight and offers a fair mix of performance and elegance. Let us take a detailed look at what the phone has to offer. It looks very similar to the iPhone and a lot of devices which are already out in the market look similar to this device.

The Nubia Z11 Mini S offers a metal unibody and has a good grip. The phone is comfortable to hold and comes with a matte finishing on the back. The phone has slim borders and a large display. It comes out with a “breath light” on the central capacitive button which glows while the phone is charging. It also indicates when an SMS arrives

The Z11 Mini S features a hybrid dual-SIM slot on the left, and the volumes and power buttons on the right. The phone features a headphone jack on the top. It comes with a USB Type-C port in the bottom. It features a fingerprint sensor on the back, which works quite smoothly. The fingerprint scanner can be used for clicking pictures or taking screenshots as well. The camera is present on the top left corner and comes with a slight bump. Aesthetically it is indeed a good phone with premium looks to it.

Nubia Z11 Mini S Display –

The latest smartphone from Nubia offers the users a 5.2 inched, full-HD display. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass, and is quite smooth to use. In our experience the phone has performed quite well under the sunlight as well. It comes with a brightness level of 450nits, and allows adjustable color temperature settings. The display is accessible completely even when using the phone via one hand.

Walk Through the Specs

The Nubia Z11 Mini S comes out into the markets with 4 GB of RAM along with 64 GB of storage space. The phone comes out in only one variant in India. The storage can be expanded with the help of a Micro SD card. The processor that powers the phone is the octa-cored Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. This processor has earlier been seen on other impressive phones like the Moto Z Play in the past.

The phone supports 4G connectivity as well as VoLTE. The one feature that we feel is missing from the device is that of NFC, especially when the Moto G5 Plus began offering it this year at the same price point. However, it does not make much of a difference in the Indian context as of now, but would definitely have been a nice addition to the phone.

User Interface

The phone runs on the Nubia UI 4.1, which is based on the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS. An Android Nougat OS update has been planned but it might take some time. The Nubia UI too, offers the users with some cool features such as edge gestures and screen-split up features.

Users can perform various actions by sliding their fingers along the edges of the display such as reduce or increase the brightness, switch between apps and more. Split screen works in the same way as it does in the Android Nougat. The phone comes with a user manual app for users who are new to smartphones.

Let us now talk about the camera that this phone comes out with. The Nubia Z11 Mini S offers the users with a very impressive camera that is among the highlights of this smartphone. The phone features a 23 MP camera on the back, which features Sony IMX318 sensor with PDAF and an f/2.0 aperture. The camera can shoot videos at 4K resolution. Slow-motion videos too, can be shot at a 1080p 60fps mode.

However, on using the camera, I personally didn’t feel it up to the mark. The experience with the camera is okayish. Although the camera gave me some good results, it required me to capture the photo more than twice or sometimes even thrice. The camera has the ability to capture even great photos, there is just some level of optimization and stabilization required.

We also captured a lot of other photos, you shall look them here: Nubia Z11 Mini S Camera Samples.

The company claims that the camera of the Nubia Z11 Mini S is that of the DSLR level, but to be honest, I didn’t find the camera that good. The Selfies looked great, and the resolution too is nice, but the clarity and the color scheme isn’t great.

The phone comes with an impressive front camera. It features a 13 Megapixel front camera which comes with PDAF and an f/2.0 aperture. It is great for taking selfies, and offers a good clarity as well as vivid colors.

The Nubia Z11 Mini S comes with a 3,000 mAh battery which not only lasts long, but also gets charged quickly. We also wanted to test the phone with other chargers and at the end found out that it got charged even more faster when charged by the Dash Charger. We took two ideal conditions, in the normal scenario, with the official charger it charged upto 1500 mAh and with the OnePlus Dash charger, it got charged at 1,950 mAh.

However, that was just a test, We would not personally suggest you to charge the device using any charger other than the official charger.

Price and Availability

The device is priced at Rs. 16,999 and is exclusively available only on Amazon India. In case you are looking forward to buying this device, You shall buy it from Amazon.
