2016 was the year Nokia as a brand started re-emerging in the markets. There were a lot of rumors, and a few announcements. However, come 2017, things have stepped up. A day after the CES 2017 came to an end, Nokia announced the all new Nokia 6 smartphone. Today, a new Nokia event has been announced for February 26. This is all set to be Nokia’s mega announcement – a chest thumping roar from the giant that they are back. This event will take place during the MWC 2017 (Mobile World Congress).
Nokia has posted a small video teaser on their Facebook page, which comes with the text: “Get ready! The Nokia 6 is coming to China! More announcements to follow on February 26th… Save the date!” As of now we’re not really sure if Nokia also plans to unveil other new phones at the event, but we’re certain that the Nokia 6 will be at the event. The video teaser has got a large number of users excited for this Nokia event at the MWC 2017.
In another interesting turn of events, other than the announcement of the date for the Nokia event, Nokia’s China partner, JD.com has started off with registrations for the smartphone for their first sale from January 19th. The pricing details too, have been brought to light. The Nokia 6 smartphone has been priced in at CNY 1699.
While only a black variant of the Nokia 6 is out for sale, the company is also expected to release a white variant as well, as it was spotted in TENAA listings. HMD Global, the manufacturers of the smartphone had earlier stated that the Nokia 6 will be China exclusive for now. However, there’s a good chance we might see newer smartphones at the Nokia event on February 26.
It is indeed quite exciting to see Nokia return to the smartphone markets! The company was once the leader in the mobile phone markets, but got swept out during the Android revolution. Now that it is back, Nokia looks to reclaim their throne. It was recently brought to light that the new Nokia smartphones will come with a virtual assistant, Viki. It is likely that the Nokia Event at the MWC 2017 will be the stage where Nokia unveils Viki.
