Instagram is among the biggest names when it comes to the world of social media technology. While the war between Instagram and Snapchat grows, Instagram has introduced a number of Snapchat like features over the months. The app will now have ads in the Instagram stories too. Instagram has just announced that the stories, now at 150 Million active users, will soon start displaying ads.

Instagram Stories were introduced in August, and since then, they’ve been doing really well. In 5 months, they’ve gained 150 million users, which is nearly 1 million users per day! There was a major speculation that Instagram will start displaying ads in stories soon, but today it has been confirmed by them officially on their blog.

Instagram has released more stats about the numbers – suggesting that there has been a lot of engagement, and that 1 in every 5 Instagram stories get a reply from the viewers. Not only do the Instagram stories feature ads now, the business users would soon be able to track the metrics too. The reach that Instagram Stories are getting your brand will be tracked with the help of Instagram Business tools.

It is with the help of these insights, the advertisers will be able to know the insights relating to their story, and whether their marketing spends have been getting them the right results. The ads in the Instagram Stories would be ‘immersive’ and ‘full-screen’, Instagram suggests.

For now, the feature is limited. Facebook-owned Instagram will be testing these Instagram stories ads with a small group of 30+ brands, Capital One, General Motors (Buick), Maybelline New York, Nike, Yoox, Netflix, and Qantas among others. Instagram gives an example on their blog, talking about how Airbnb has been doing it. These ads between stories will feature ‘sponsored’ written below them.
