Samsung’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have been great phones. These two devices have brought back in the interest people lost on Samsung. Recently during the Google I/O 2015, Google announced the ‘Android M’ as the upcoming Android version and released the Android M Developer Preview for the Nexus Devices.
{adinserter 3}Samsung recently announced the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Users in several countries in the west and now heading to the east, it has announced the update for the Indian Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. Since the OTA updates are available, you can:

But since, the OTA updates are coming slowly slowly to all the devices there are chances that you don’t see any update available on your Galaxy S6. However, if you don’t see then wait for sometime and soon you’ll get an update, in case you are an Android freak and don’t want to wait for getting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on your Galaxy S6, then you can follow the steps listed below and install Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on your Galaxy S6.
Update Galaxy S6 to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Manually.
So ready to update it manually? Wait! Manually updating isn’t tough, but it really requires patience and some knowledge about Android Devices, in case you’ve already flashed roms or firmware’s then you can begin with the steps, but in case you’ve not done this before, I’d suggest you to wait for the updates to be available OTA, because if something goes wrong while following the steps, there are chances that you might end up bricking your Galaxy S6.
Step 1: Download the G920IDVU2COF8 Lollipop Firmware & Odin Tool.
Download the G920IDVU2COF8 Lollipop Firmware which is the official Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware for Galaxy S6. The Odin tool is GUI tool which allows the user to flash the stock firmware/modem/recovery directly, without having knowledge of Fastboot and Adb commands. Below are the download links for both:
- Download G920IDVU2COF8 Lollipop Firmware.
- Download Odin3 v3.10.6 zip.
- Download Samsung Galaxy S6 Drivers
Step 2: Extract the Both the Downloaded Files & Run Odin.
Both the files are compressed and you will come across the main files after extracting them. After extracting the Firmware file, you will get a G920IDVU2COF8 tar.md5 file. On extracting the Odin 3 v3.10.6 ZIP, you will find the executable (.exe) file, you are required to click on it and run it.

Step 3: Install Drivers & Boot Galaxy S6 into Download Mode.
I’ve already linked the drivers, Download the that file and install the drivers on your PC else the phone and the PC won’t be able to communicate with each other!
Download mode is the mode through which your Galaxy S6 and the Odin could interact. To boot into download mode, Turn off your Smartphone, then you’ll have to press and hold the below listed key combinations:
[alert-announce]Power off + Volume Down + Home Button.[/alert-announce]
After booting into Download mode, you will see a different screen than the normal screen and it would be showing “Downloading Target”. Now connect the device to your computer system, if the Odin shows that a device was added then no issues, else you will have to re-install the drivers on your PC.
Step 4: Flash the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Firmware using ODIN.
Once ODIN has detected your device, it will show that the device was added. Now go to the ODIN windows and disable “Re-partition” option before beginning with the flashing process.
Now click on the “AP” option available on the ODIN’s UI, and then you will have to browse the location and add the “Android 5.1.1 G920IDVU2COF8 tar.md5 file” which was obtained while extracting the firmware. After adding it, Press on the start button.
After that wait for sometime and you will see that the Galaxy S6 rebooted, Now unplug your device from the computer system and on booting you will see the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop installed on the Indian Galaxy S6. Now login to your accounts and get set with the new Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM based firmware.
