The Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL smartphones were first released in the October of 2016. The phones were immensely popular as they were the apex Android devices, dethroning the Nexus phones. While the sales were reportedly rather slow moving, the phones have still sold really well for a phone priced that high. Google is now working on their next generation Pixel devices, and the Google Pixel XL 2 has now been spotted in leaked renders.

This image comes via Android Police, who were also the first names last year to leak the Google Pixel’s form factor. The company has given this form factor of the Google Pixel XL 2 a confidence score of 8 out of 10, meaning there’s a very high chance the gen-next Pixel phones would actually look like the render shown above. This is the phone that has been code-named Pixel ‘Taimen’ in the past. Reports have indicated that LG will manufacture this phone, while the regular sized Google Pixel 2 smartphone would be made by HTC. Google is expected to reveal the phone around October.

Google Pixel XL 2: Design Details

The Google Pixel XL 2, based on what we see from these renders, comes with a curved back design, similar to how the previous generation Pixel phones were like. There are some changes when it comes to design style when compared to last years’ phone. The fingerprint scanner, for instance, is located below the glass panel on the back, as opposed to last year where it was inside it.

The camera of the Google Pixel XL 2 isn’t really level with the device, like last year. The camera does seem to have a little silver ring that adds a bump to it. In another difference when compared to the 2016 Pixel phones, the antenna bands too seem to be missing from the bottom. The glass panel on the top too, has been made a little smaller in size as it no longer accommodates the fingerprint scanner.

Moving to the front side of the Google Pixel XL 2 smartphone, a 6 inched display with a 2:1 ratio is present. The screen is going to be an LG-made AMOLED display, which features extremely thin bezels and rounded corners. This gives the Google Pixel XL 2 a more modern look, similar to the likes of other 2017 flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.

Interestingly, the speaker grille on the front has been made wider than before. The front of the phone also features the front facing camera. As of now we are not really sure if the phone will or will not feature a 3.5mm jack. However, chances are that the phone might not feature one, taking the drive to being waterproof to the next level. Talking of waterproofing, there’s a high chance that Google will ensure that these gen-next Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 phones are waterproof, or to some extent, water-resistant.

In another curious bit of detail about this gen-next Google Pixel XL 2 smartphone, it is now being reported that the phone would feature a squeezable frame. This is similar to what we have seen earlier in the HTC U11. It would be interesting to see how Google would make use of this.
