Over the past couple of days a storm had hit the online news industry as thousands of users were complaining that their Google News approved websites were suddenly un-indexed from the news section. Web administrators were taking to Google’s product forums to complain about the issue. If estimates are to be believed, tens of thousands of News websites were de-listed from the news section by Google.

However, after a couple of days of confusion – Google has finally confirmed that this was unintentional and these websites were accidentally removed. Google has now begun to re-index these websites and almost all the websites which were affected are now back. The outrage caused by this was massive as admins were upset as to why Google un-indexed them without a warning or a reason.

There was a large scale confusion as this appeared that Google had removed many websites due to a lack of proper details. However, that was not the case, as later clarified by Google. Google’s Valerie Strait posted on the Product Forums saying –

Again, we apologize for the issue that resulted in a number of sites being delisted from Google News. This was an unintentional technical issue and not something we did manually. We are working hard to identify the sites that were incorrectly affected and will get them back in as soon as we possibly can.

We provide to you a first-hand account of this incident as Droidmen was among one of those unfortunate websites which were un-indexed from Google News. However, as of the morning of 9th of January, we are back in Google News and we’re back with a bang.
