When Google announced the Google Pixel smartphones last year, it was all about the exclusivity. The phones came with an exclusive launcher, which works only on the Google Pixel. There are a number of ways by which users can get a similar look and feel on their phones. However, most of these Pixel Launcher replicators are hard to install as they require a root, and the ones which do get installed do not come with the Google Now integration. This problem has finally been solved by Lawnchair.

The Lawnchair launcher comes out with the Pixel launcher along with complete Google Now integration. The Google Now integration has been something which had been missing from these Pixel launcher apps for a long while. However, Lawnchair finally brings the complete solution. Your Android phones will truly feel like the Google Pixel now.

Developed by Till Kottmann, the Lawnchair launcher brings Google Now integration because it has been recreated entirely from ground-up. While this is quite a pain in the neck, this has been worth it. The developer has managed to create the perfect solution – as you can now get past both the problems – that of rooting your phone, and that of getting the google launcher integration.

Complete List of Features of Lawnchair

  • Google Now Tab
  • Pixel Pill / Bar
  • Experimental Pixel Launcher features
  • Iconpack support
  • App renaming
  • App Hiding
  • Adaptive theming
  • App tray transparency
  • Changing Icon size
  • Changing grid size
  • Save scrolling position in apps tray
  • Notification badges (Enable Notification access for Lawnchair in settings to enable)

How to Install Lawnchair

The app can be downloaded from the official github link. The APK will then need to be installed on your phone, make sure your permission settings allow you to install external apps. This is indeed one of the best ways to get the Pixel Launcher with all its features working on your Android phone.

The Telegram Messenger has been one of the most popular messaging apps for those who prefer a more secure platform for communication. The app offers end to end encryption. The tight security that this app provides its users has been quite controversial at times. Russia has been known to be a country where laws are rather strict and the government ends up having its way. The Telegram Messenger has now been ordered to comply to Russia’s new data protection laws or it might soon face a ban in the country.

Russia is taking these drastic steps as it has been discovered in investigation that terrorists plotted the attack on Saint Petersburg of April on the Telegram Messenger. This is not the first time the app is being accused as a place for terrorists to communicate. There were similar allegations when the France terror attacks took place last year. Russia might soon ban the app if the developers fail to comply with their new data protection laws.

What are these Russian Data Protection Laws?

The new data protection laws in Russia were introduced on the 1st of January this year. These new laws want all foreign companies operating in Russia to store the personal data of Russian citizens dating to past six months, as well as encryption keys within the country. The company has to share these keys and personal data to the government whenever requested.

“There is one demand, and it is simple: to fill in a form with information on the company that controls Telegram,” Alexander Zharov said, head of communications regulator Roskomnadzor. “And to officially send it to Roskomnadzor to include this data in the registry of organizers of dissemination of information. In case of refusal… Telegram shall be blocked in Russia until we receive the needed information.”

The Telegram Messenger has more than 6 Million users using the app. So far they have refused to comply to the new data laws. In a similar disagreement over refusing to accept data protection laws, LinkedIn too was banned from Russia. Could Telegram be next?

Amazon has been a go-to solution for many of us when it comes to online shopping. A global name, Amazon is a major player in the Indian e-commerce industry too. The company has been usually rated very highly when it comes to customer service, but a recent incident has come to light, which showcases the amount of apathy the company shows, even towards regular customers. A OnePlus 5 customer, who wanted to inquire about the status of his order was shocked to realize that the Amazon Prime account used to order the phone has been blocked by the company.

Like many of you, Shyam Pareek too was excited for the launch of the latest OnePlus 5 smartphone. He ordered the phone using his brother’s Amazon Prime account. He was overjoyed when he got the confirmation message. However, what happened next was rather shocking – upon trying to check the status of his order, he realized that his Amazon account was blocked by Amazon India, without stating a reason.

Like any rational customer would do, Shyam called up the customer care support, hoping that they would be able to resolve his problem. However, the experience that he had with the Customer Care service of Amazon India was rather shocking. After explaining the problem multiple times, the customer care representatives asked him to fax his details to them.

The very fact that Amazon India wants users to send them details via fax shows the extent of primitive infrastructure that the company uses in India. It also shows how incapable the company is in resolving a problem. Shyam took matters to the Facebook timeline of Amazon India. The biggest complain that he raises are: Why would you ask anyone to send over a fax in 2017, why did Amazon India block his account without any warning, why has his phone not been shipped or why has a refund not been initiated. The company has left him hanging in the dark, and he is now starting a campaign to Boycott Amazon.

One question that comes to our mind is, why would a company ban someone’s account even after he/her has paid the price for the product and has the prime subscription. We’re getting in touch with Shyam to know if Amazon has responded him with the reason for banning the account.

One thing which has personally shocked us is the way the support has responded to Shyam. I personally love the Amazon customer support team, they’ve most of the time surprised me with their support. We sincerely hope Amazon India and Shyam come to an amicable solution. Amazon is an international giant when it comes to e-commerce and has a goodwill which is acclaimed globally. This is unacceptable on the part of the company.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 To Launch in Late September For Almost €1,000 appeared first on Droidmen.

Samsung is all set to launch their second flagship device of 2017, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 over the next few months. There’s been a lot of ambiguity over when the phone might come out. Reports had earlier indicated it to be late August at the IFA, then there were reports of an earlier launch. However, latest information which comes via Evan Blass, the popular tipster, states that the phone will launch in late September. He further states that it would be quite costly, coming in at a price of 999 Euros.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 comes out as the successor to last years’ controversial phone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Reports indicate that the Note 8 would come out into the markets with a 6.3 inched display, along with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. It would feature an AMOLED screen.

As of now it is hard to tell what the difference between the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the 6.2 inched Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is. The biggest differentiation is that of the display, as the Note 8 uses a more expensive screen, and that of the camera, as the Note 8 comes out with a dual camera on the back. The phone is going to come out with the same processors as the Samsung Galaxy S8 earlier this year – with the Exynos 8895 for most nations and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 for some.

Another difference between the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus would be the fact that the Note 8 sports a stylus. It will be coming out with 6GB of RAM compared to the S8 and S8 Plus which offered 4GB RAMs (Though a special variant did have 6GB RAM). This will be Samsung’s second phone to feature a 6GB RAM after last years’ Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro.

Both the cameras on the back are expected to be of 12 MP. Surprisingly, the phone would feature a rather small battery for such a powerful phone as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to feature a mere 3300mAh battery. The phones would be compatible with Samsung DeX. Upon the time of the launch the phone would come out in Blue, Black and Gold variants.

The OnePlus 5 has been among the most awaited smartphones of the year. In a very short span of time, the brand has risen to become a global sensation. They have been doing really well in the smartphone markets internationally, and the demands have been soaring. The company has finally jerked the curtain off the phone, and it has now been officially launched. The wait is over, and the excitement has maxed out! Let us take a look at what this gen-next phone from OnePlus has to offer:

OnePlus 5 Design and Display

The latest OnePlus phone comes out with a 5.5 inched display which will offer a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The phone comes out with an AMOLED display. While the company does focus a lot on the design of the phone every year, this year it looks like the design has been overlooked as, at first glance the phone reminds you of the iPhone 7 or even the recently released Oppo R11 and R11 Plus smartphones. At just 7.25mm, this is the slimmest OnePlus smartphone of all times.

The phone features a simple design which is good looking and comfortable to hold. On the front we see a front camera, along with the speaker grille and the home button. On the back we see a plain, minimalist design that flaunt curved antenna bands on top, the OnePlus Logo on the center.

The dual cameras are placed on the top left corner and the LED flash is present there as well. The OnePlus 5 offers a USB Type-C port on the bottom. It features the power button as well as the volume rockers on the left side. A 3.5mm jack is located at the bottom. This phone comes out in two color variants, which are quite similar looking. These color variants are those of Midnight Black and Slate Gray.

OnePlus 5 Specifications

The phone comes out in two variants based on the RAM and storage combinations: The first of the two features a 6GB RAM along with 64GB of storage space, while the second variant comes with 8GB of RAM along with 128GB of storage space. Both these variants run on Qualcomm’s latest flagship processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The phone offers Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, as well as NFC support.

Earlier this year we have seen the processor power some of the most powerful phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the HTC U11 among others. OnePlus has always ensured that they use the latest technologies to power their device and the OnePlus 5 has been no exception. The 8GB RAM is a massive addition, and it will be the first phone of the year to offer this kind of power.

The OnePlus 5 comes with a ceramic fingerprint sensor, which offers an incredible speed. The fingerprint sensor on the OnePlus 5 can unlock a phone in as less as 0.2 seconds! The phone runs on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with Oxygen OS (or Hydrogen OS if you are in China) on top. OnePlus has always been very regular in updates and we expect that the company will come out with the Android O OS update as soon as it is possible for them to roll it out.

The processing power has been improved a lot. Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs stressed on the fact that this is a very powerful device. A new feature that sets app priority has been improved to make the best use of the 8GB RAM. Touchscreen input speeds too, have improved vastly. The phone comes with a new, stronger and quieter vibration motor.

OnePlus 5: OxygenOS

The phone comes with an ambient sensor that automatically adjusts the display color warmth to an optimal level. The OxygenOS that powers OnePlus 5 offers a new feature, expanded screenshots. This feature allows the users to take screenshots of a long web page in a single shot. A new e-reader mode has also been introduced.

OnePlus then talks about the community feedback and talks about how valuable the community of users is to them. They talk of the OxygenOS beta program, and how successful it has been. OnePlus talks about their customer support, stating that they had just 5 people in their customer support team when they began, but now the team has gone up to over 500 people.

OnePlus 5 Battery Life

The phone runs on an impressive 3300mAh battery that comes with Dash Charge technology that allows the users to charge the phone at a really fast speed. This has been seen in various other OnePlus phones too. The tagline that promotes the dash charge feature is quite catchy. It states – a day’s power in half an hour!

The company showed off the fast charging of OnePlus 5 by comparing it to the Samsung Galaxy S8. OnePlus 5 charged 58% in half an hour, while the Samsung Galaxy S8 charged only 39%. The RAM chip on the phone has also been created keeping in mind that the phone saves on the battery life.

OnePlus 5 Camera

The latest OnePlus flagship has come out with a combination of 20MP+16MP camera on the back. In addition to this, it offers a 16MP front camera, which is quite impressive. Expect some high-quality selfies with this camera! OnePlus CEO Carl Pei addresses the audiences about the camera, stating that smartphone cameras have almost hit their peak. However, OnePlus has something different to offer. He goes on comparing DSLR images alongside OnePlus 5 images.

The primary function of the second lens would be to zoom. OnePlus states that the problem with modern day smartphone cameras is that of digital zoom stretching out the pixels. The ONePLus 5 offers a solution to that problem with their second lens. Emily Ratajkowski speaks up about the camera’s features. She explains the various features in the phone, such as portrait mode, incredible low-light imagery with the help of a f /1.7 aperture. It also offers a smart capture feature, a pro-mode, as well as a fast autofocus.

OnePlus 5 Pricing Details

OnePlus 5 has announced the pricing details of the OnePlus 5 as well. The phone comes out at a price of $479 in Europe and EUR 499 in Europe for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant. The 8GB RAM, 128GB storage variant comes out at a price of $550 in the US and EUR 579 in Europe. The phone would go on sale starting the 27th of June. OnePlus also announced special Otterbox cases at the event.

In May, we reported that some users of Twitter using the Alpha version of the app were getting a new, rounded UI. However, it wasn’t something that had rolled out to many users back then, and it was possible Twitter was just experimenting with this UI. Today, this Twitter UI update is being rolled out to the Beta users of the app. Twitter 7.0 Beta users are now getting this new, rounded UI.

This update has now moved up the pipeline and has now reached the Beta users. The update does not bring out any new ‘features’ per say, but it makes the app look different and gives it a refreshed look. This new Twitter UI brings in rounded profile pictures, rounded icons, as well as minor rearrangements in the menu. Another thing that has been observed with this new Twitter UI update is that users can no longer see their cover image on the side menu.

For Twitter, a UI change is nothing new. The company has been experimenting with a number of UI changes over the years. While this new Twitter UI brings rounded icons and makes everything circular, other updates too have brought in various changes. A recent update brought changes in the way Twitter treats 140 characters by no longer including usernames. Twitter has been supporting 360 degree live streaming videos since late last year, a Twitter Lite app too, was introduced recently.

Twitter has, over the past few years, been in quite a precarious position. The company was facing massive competition from Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat and has been losing its grip on social media markets. While there are days when the platform gains major motion, there are also major periods of dull silence. Twitter continues to fight back against this slowdown with their head held high, and this new Twitter UI proves that the company is still looking forward to deliver the best possible experience for the users.

Google is all set to launch their second generation Pixel smartphones into the markets later this year. These devices, the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 are all set to take the dominance of the Pixel devices even further. In a very short period of time, the Pixel phones have proven to be the apex devices when it comes to the world of Android smartphones. In a latest update, specifications of the Pixel XL 2 smartphone have now been leaked.

The Google Pixel XL 2 was spotted listed on the GFXbench benchmark listings. Based on this information, the upcoming Google flagship would feature a 5.6 inched display that would offer a resolution of 2560 x 1312. This resolution is similar to the recently released Essential Phone. While the display is smaller in size than the LG G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8, it still maintains the same ratio of 18:9 (Technically a little smaller, but only a marginal difference).

In addition to the details about the display, the GFXbench listings also tell us that the Google Pixel XL 2 would be coming out into the markets with 4GB of RAM. In addition to that, a Qualcomm made octa-ore CPU will power a device. As of now we do not know for sure which one that might be, but it is speculated to be either the Snapdragon 835, or its expected successor, the Snapdragon 836. An Adreno 540 GPU will also be present.

Going back to the display for one split second, we reported that Google and LG are working together over curved displays. This is likely to be a part of the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel XL 2 devices. The phone will feature 128 GB of storage. It is also highly expected that the Google Pixel XL 2 will feature the upcoming Android O Operating System. Stay tuned with us for more updates on the Pixel 2.
