Android Oreo has been the biggest story and the hottest topic of conversation over the past 12 hours. Since its official launch, the OS has been slowly rolling out. Live images of Android 8.0 Oreo OS have been updated by Google. The Android 8.0 OTA update too has been rolling out for the beta users. While most users wait for the update to come to their phones, Here’s a list of various OEMs and are they expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update.

Android updates bring in new features which the users would love to use, Whenever there is a new update rolling out, all the android users would surely want that. It is not because it is the latest, it is because the update will make the smartphones do a lot more than what they could.

When Will Your Phone Get Android 8.0 OS Update

We’ve created this article to help people find out whether their device would be getting the Android 8.0 OS update or not. The list has been created keeping in mind their update. Here’s a list of different OEMs and when will they be getting the Android 8.0 OS update – find your OEM and check when are you expected to get the update.


Samsung is yet to reveal their plans as to when they will release the Android 8.0 OS Update. However, Google has mentioned them as one of the OEMs they will be closely working with to ensure timely updates. We expect the updates to begin rolling out around December this year, and continuing all the way till about the March of 2018 for these flagship smartphones. The following Samsung phones are expected to get the Android Oreo update –

These are the phones which are expected to get priority updates. Following that Samsung is also expected to release the Android 8.0 OS update for the Samsung A-series devices of 2017, Samsung J-series devices of 2017 and Samsung C-series devices of 2017.


LG is another major player in the markets when it comes to the world of smartphone technologies. The company has also been listed by Google as one they are working with for the Android 8.0 update. While LG has a large number of budget to mid-budget phones in the markets they are not expected to get this update. We expect the following devices to get the Android 8.0 OS update by February to March next year –


Motorola smartphones have always featured stock Android OS and have always been among the first ones to get the latest Android OS updates. We expect the Android 8.0 OS update to start rolling out for at least some of the following devices by November or December. The entire line-up is expected to be running on Android Oreo by April to May of 2018.

The devices mentioned above are certain to get the Android 8.0 update from Motorola. However, there are some other devices which don’t really rank as high as them, but are still noteworthy because Motorola has released updates for older/low-budget phones in the past. These phones are expected to get the Android 8.0 update but nothing can be said for sure as of now –

  • Moto C
  • Moto C Plus
  • Moto G4
  • Moto G4 Plus
  • Moto G4 Play

Google (Pixel and Nexus)

Google Pixel smartphones replaced the Nexus line of devices. However, Pixel and Nexus are both known as Google Phones, and all of these are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update this month itself. The Live images are already available and OTA updates should start rolling out for all users in a couple of days.


A returning Nokia has roared loud and clear. Google has stated that they will be working with HMD Global to bring the latest Android OS updates to these Nokia smartphones. HMD Global had already confirmed that all their phones would be getting the Android Oreo update. No timeline has been specified so far, we expect the updates to start rolling out around the end of the year for:


HTC isn’t really known for timely updates. The company has quite a notorious reputation regarding updates but things have been getting better recently. The following HTC phones are certain to get the Android 8.0 OS update by around February next year –

The company might even pull a surprise and release the Android 8.0 OS Update for the HTC 10 but that is going to come a little later, we presume.


Known for timely updates, OnePlus began rolling out the Android Nougat OS update right on the 31st December last year – keeping their promise of releasing the update before the year ends. A similar promise has been made by OnePlus this year too. Expect the updates to come out some time in December for –


Essential is the new kid on the block. Andy Rubin’s Essential phone has been listed by Google as an OEM they are working with to provide a timely update. We expect that the update would roll out around November or December this year.

Another brand not really known for timely updates, most Xiaomi phones are still to get the Android Nougat update too. However, they have been a little more timely with their flagship smartphones. Expect at least the following smartphones to get the Android 8.0 OS update by summer 2018:

As of now, we are still awaiting more details on Xiaomi’s plans for Android Oreo implementation.


Sony is expected to roll out the Android Oreo OS update for their flagship smartphones of this year and the previous year. The updates are expected to come out around the end of this year or early next year for at least the following phones:

  • Sony Xperia XA
  • Sony Xperia XA Ultra

As of now it seems like BlackBerry KEYone is the only candidate to get the Android Oreo OS update. If this ever happens we do not expect it before Q2 2018. Stay tuned with us for more updates on BlackBerry’s plans for Android 8.0 OS Update rollout.


Considering that Lenovo dropped their Vibe UI and moved to Android Nougat OS with the Lenovo K8 Note, we expect that at least this phone would get the Android 8.0 OS update by December. Older Lenovo smartphones are likely to get the update eventually over the Q1 and Q2 of 2018.


Huawei has released timely updates over the years. We expect them to follow a similar pattern this year too. The following smartphones are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update starting later this year going all the way till Q2 2018.

Moreover, Huawei might also release the Android 8.0 Oreo OS update for the Honor 6X and Huawei Mate 8. Huawei has been on good terms with Google in the past, having co-created the Nexus 6P with them. They have also been timely in their Android OS Updates.


A name which has constantly been coming out with a number of devices despite facing quite some controversy over the past few months. Having been surrounded by numerous lawsuits and allegations, Meizu has been very slow when it comes to providing updates.

A large number of Meizu smartphones do not even run on the Android Nougat OS. Android 8.0 OS update seems like a faraway thought for Meizu as of now. We will update you if the company does plan to update their phones.


India’s Micromax isn’t really known to be a timely updater of devices. The company has slowed down their smartphone production and has been slowly backing out of the markets. Considering the fact that they usually create low-end and entry level devices which offer basic features it does not look like Micromax too has any major plans for an upgrade to the Android 8.0 OS any time soon.


While their parent brand might not be the most popular brand in this article, Micromax’s Youth oriented Yu brand of smartphones are a silver lining for the company. Yu resurfaced into the markets a few months ago with their latest release – the Yu Yureka Black. The phone is soon expected to get the Android 7.1.2 OS update. However there has been no word if the company is indeed planning to release the Android 8.0 OS update for their devices.


ASUS is among one of the most well known brands when it comes to smartphones in Asia.The company is not exactly known for their timely updates but is still timely than various other similar brands. The latest Android 8.0 OS update is expected to come out for the following ASUS smartphones –

These are a mix of ZenFone phones from this year and from the previous years. The ASUS ZenFone 4 series of phones were announced only a couple of days ago. These phones are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update but there are no tentative dates as of now. We expect the Android Oreo update to roll out for the phones next year around the end of Q1 2018.


While it is one of the biggest manufacturers of affordable smartphones, Oppo loses in software what they gain in hardware – OS updates are rare for Oppo phones. The company barely has any phones running the Android Nougat OS and was releasing phones running the Android Marshmallow OS till recently. There’s no word on which Oppo phones, if any would be updated to the Android Oreo OS.


A brand which is in troubled waters of late, LeEco is having a hard time in the industry. Most of their phones, similar to the Meizu and Micromax devices mentioned above aren’t even on the Android Nougat OS – as of now it looks like LeEco has no plans to release Android 8.0 OS update for their phones.


Sharp is a major brand, especially in Japan. Last year they released a new Android One smartphone as well as the X1 this year. Both these phones, which run on the stock Android OS are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update by November to December of this year, around the time other Android One phones would be getting the update.


While ZTE isn’t really known to be a major brand in the smartphone markets, they are expanding their reach. As of now the only ZTE smartphone that is expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update is that of ZTE Axon 7. As of now there are no update as to when the update might come out. We expect it later in Q2 2017.


Another name which has made it big in the Indian and Chinese markets, Vivo too, like other similar brands from China, is not really known for pushing out timely Android OS updates. If you are a Vivo user, don’t be too optimistic. Maybe some new phones would come running the Android Oreo OS some day.
