LG

LG is another major player in the markets when it comes to the world of smartphone technologies. The company has also been listed by Google as one they are working with for the Android 8.0 update. While LG has a large number of budget to mid-budget phones in the markets they are not expected to get this update. We expect the following devices to get the Android 8.0 OS update by February to March next year –

Motorola

Motorola smartphones have always featured stock Android OS and have always been among the first ones to get the latest Android OS updates. We expect the Android 8.0 OS update to start rolling out for at least some of the following devices by November or December. The entire line-up is expected to be running on Android Oreo by April to May of 2018.

The devices mentioned above are certain to get the Android 8.0 update from Motorola. However, there are some other devices which don’t really rank as high as them, but are still noteworthy because Motorola has released updates for older/low-budget phones in the past. These phones are expected to get the Android 8.0 update but nothing can be said for sure as of now –

  • Moto E4 Power
  • Moto E4
  • Moto C

Google (Pixel and Nexus)

Google Pixel smartphones replaced the Nexus line of devices. The Live images are already available and OTA updates should start rolling out for all users in a couple of days.

Nokia

A returning Nokia has roared loud and clear. Google has stated that they will be working with HMD Global to bring the latest Android OS updates to these Nokia smartphones. HMD Global had already confirmed that all their phones would be getting the Android Oreo update. No timeline has been specified so far, we expect the updates to start rolling out around the end of the year for:

HTC

HTC isn’t really known for timely updates. The company has quite a notorious reputation regarding updates but things have been getting better recently. The following HTC phones are certain to get the Android 8.0 OS update by around February next year –

The company might even pull a surprise and release the Android 8.0 OS Update for the HTC 10 but that is going to come a little later, we presume.

OnePlus

Known for timely updates, OnePlus began rolling out the Android Nougat OS update right on the 31st December last year – keeping their promise of releasing the update before the year ends. A similar promise has been made by OnePlus this year too. Expect the updates to come out some time in December for –

Lenovo

Considering that Lenovo dropped their Vibe UI and moved to Android Nougat OS with the Lenovo K8 Note, we expect that at least this phone would get the Android 8.0 OS update by December. Older Lenovo smartphones are likely to get the update eventually over the Q1 and Q2 of 2018.

Huawei

Huawei has released timely updates over the years. We expect them to follow a similar pattern this year too. The following smartphones are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update starting later this year going all the way till Q2 2018.

Moreover, Huawei might also release the Android 8.0 Oreo OS update for the Honor 6X and Huawei Mate 8. Huawei has been on good terms with Google in the past, having co-created the Nexus 6P with them. They have also been timely in their Android OS Updates.

Meizu

A name which has constantly been coming out with a number of devices despite facing quite some controversy over the past few months. Having been surrounded by numerous lawsuits and allegations, Meizu has been very slow when it comes to providing updates.

A large number of Meizu smartphones do not even run on the Android Nougat OS. Android 8.0 OS update seems like a faraway thought for Meizu as of now. We will update you if the company does plan to update their phones.

Micromax

India’s Micromax isn’t really known to be a timely updater of devices. The company has slowed down their smartphone production and has been slowly backing out of the markets. Considering the fact that they usually create low-end and entry level devices which offer basic features it does not look like Micromax too has any major plans for an upgrade to the Android 8.0 OS any time soon.

Yu

While their parent brand might not be the most popular brand in this article, Micromax’s Youth oriented Yu brand of smartphones are a silver lining for the company. Yu resurfaced into the markets a few months ago with their latest release – the Yu Yureka Black. The phone is soon expected to get the Android 7.1.2 OS update. However there has been no word if the company is indeed planning to release the Android 8.0 OS update for their devices.

ASUS

ASUS is among one of the most well known brands when it comes to smartphones in Asia. The company is not exactly known for their timely updates but is still timely than various other similar brands. The latest Android 8.0 OS update is expected to come out for the following ASUS smartphones –

These are a mix of ZenFone phones from this year and from the previous years. The ASUS ZenFone 4 series of phones were announced only a couple of days ago. These phones are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update but there are no tentative dates as of now. We expect the Android Oreo update to roll out for the phones next year around the end of Q1 2018.

Oppo

While it is one of the biggest manufacturers of affordable smartphones, Oppo loses in software what they gain in hardware – OS updates are rare for Oppo phones. The company barely has any phones running the Android Nougat OS and was releasing phones running the Android Marshmallow OS till recently. There’s no word on which Oppo phones, if any would be updated to the Android Oreo OS.

LeEco

A brand which is in troubled waters of late, LeEco is having a hard time in the industry. Most of their phones, similar to the Meizu and Micromax devices mentioned above aren’t even on the Android Nougat OS – as of now it looks like LeEco has no plans to release Android 8.0 OS update for their phones.

Sharp

Sharp is a major brand, especially in Japan. Last year they released a new Android One smartphone as well as the X1 this year. Both these phones, which run on the stock Android OS are expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update by November to December of this year, around the time other Android One phones would be getting the update.

While ZTE isn’t really known to be a major brand in the smartphone markets, they are expanding their reach. As of now the only ZTE smartphone that is expected to get the Android 8.0 OS update is that of ZTE Axon 7. As of now there are no update as to when the update might come out. We expect it later in Q2 2017.

Vivo

Another name which has made it big in the Indian and Chinese markets, Vivo too, like other similar brands from China, is not really known for pushing out timely Android OS updates.
